Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp admitted rushing Gerdan Shaqiri out of the stadium, thinking the latter had suffered an injury against Lincoln City on Thursday in the League Cup.
The German praised Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino after sweeping their hosts 7-2 when Liverpool met Arsenal in the eight-round final on Thursday.
Klopp said after the game: “Shaqiri played an excellent game, it was my fault (replacing him), he was completely healthy, his ankle slightly sprained but he was fine. There is no question about Shaqiri’s abilities, there was never any doubt.”
“I liked what Minamino did. He was involved in many situations during the match. The opponent had to kick off seven times and the first person to push to get the ball back was Minamino. He put the pressure on the match.” .
Liverpool host Arsenal on Monday in the third round of the Premier League, and three days later the two clubs will meet at Anfield Road in the League Cup.
Liverpool and Arsenal are among the only 5 clubs to have achieved two league victories so far, with Everton, Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
Liverpool defend their league title after winning the championship that has been absent for 30 years.
