A failed escape attempt that took place inside Tora prison, this Wednesday morning, by 4 of those sentenced to death and detainees, which resulted in their deaths.
Security sources confirmed that the Insurance Force, guarded by the execution in Tora prison, responded to the escape of the prisoners, but it resulted in the martyrdom of two officers and a policeman.
Tora Prison is one of the most famous Egyptian prisons, which is located opposite the Tora al-Balad subway station in the Tora area southwest of Helwan, and a large part of the prison is located directly on the Nile, surrounded by a group of towers for police officers.
Mustafa Al-Nahhas Pasha, Minister of the Interior, at the time, decided to establish the Tora Prison in 1928, with the aim of alleviating the overcrowding in the Abu Zaabal Prison.
Over time, the prison expanded to include 7 prisons, including: Al-Mazraa Prison, Tora Liman, Tora Reception Prison, Tora Prison, and Tora High Security Prison, famous for Scorpion.
Tora prison also includes a small hospital overlooking a garden known as “the amber”, which houses those convicted of corruption.
Inside Tora Prison, there is a large soccer field and another that is used as a tennis or volleyball court.
The walls of Tora prison are about 7 meters high, equipped with surveillance cameras that operate throughout the day, as well as several successive fences that separate the different sections of the prison. The Tora walls have been raised 2.5 meters when they were built to about 7 meters to prevent any escape attempts by inmates.
Tora Prison included one of the most famous Egyptian prisons, Tora Prison, which is the high security prison known as “Scorpion” Prison, which is the most famous among its counterparts in Egyptian prisons. It took two years to build and was completed on May 30, 1993.
