With the acceleration of events surrounding the Libyan dossier and the expectation of the arrival of the army commander, Khalifa Haftar, and the speaker of parliament, Aqila Saleh, in Cairo, the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, confirmed that his country would act in defense of his security if the Sirte line was crossed in Libya.

Al-Sisi said in a speech to the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, which is being held hypothetically for the first time within the aftermath of the Corona virus: “ We have announced and reiterated here that the The continuation of the fighting and the crossing of the red line that represents the Sirte-Al-Youfra Egypt line will confront it in defense of its national security and the security of its people. .

He also renewed the call “for all parties to return to the political track to achieve the peace, security and stability that the people of Libya deserve.”

“Security of neighboring countries”

He added that “Egypt adheres to the path of a United Nations-led political settlement on the basis of the political agreement signed in Skhirat, the results of the Berlin conference and the” Cairo Declaration “launched by the Speaker of Parliament and the Commander of the Libyan National Army, which is a joint and comprehensive political initiative to end the conflict in Libya and includes specific steps and a clear timetable. Restore order and establish a consensus government that lives up to the aspirations of the Libyan people “.

Al-Sisi pointed out that “the repercussions of the crisis are not limited to the interior of Libya, but affect the security of neighboring countries and international stability,” and stressed that “Egypt is determined to support the Libyan brothers to free Libya. your country from terrorist organizations and militias and stop the blatant interference by some regional parties that have deliberately brought in. Foreign fighters are heading to Libya to realize well-known colonial ambitions and illusions that are out of date.

AlNahda Dam

On the subject of the Renaissance dam, he said: “I would like to convey the greatest concern of the Egyptian nation for this project that a neighboring and friendly country is building on the river that has given life to millions of people for thousands of years.”

“We have spent almost a decade in painstaking negotiations with our brothers in Sudan and Ethiopia, seeking to reach an agreement that regulates the filling and operation of the dam and achieves the required balance between the development requirements of the friendly Ethiopian people and between safeguarding the interests of Egypt’s water and guarantee their right to life, “added Sisi.

“It is not a party monopoly”

In addition, he stressed that “the Nile River is not the monopoly of a party, and its waters for Egypt are necessary for survival without prejudice to the rights of the brothers.”

Al-Sisi also highlighted: “The Security Council’s response to Egypt’s call to hold a consultation session on the issue on June 29, due to the seriousness and importance of this issue and its direct contact with the preservation of peace and international security, which places the responsibility on the international community to pressure all parties to reach the desired agreement that achieves our interests. ” Common “.

He said that “the negotiation period should not be extended indefinitely in an attempt to impose a fait accompli because our peoples yearn for stability, development and a promising new era of cooperation.”

Convergence of points of view

It should be noted that last June, Sisi announced that the Egyptian army is capable of defending Egypt within and outside its borders, warning that it would not allow any threat to the security of Egypt’s western borders, noting that the cities of Sirte and Youfrah in Libya are a red line for Egypt.

Earlier Tuesday, sources told Al-Arabiya that the Libyan army commander, Khalifa Haftar, would arrive Tuesday night on a surprise visit to Egypt. Eagle Saleh, head of the Libyan Parliament, will also arrive simultaneously, since it is expected, according to sources, that Haftar will meet to discuss a series of files, to which are added the initiatives that took place in Geneva and Morocco on the Libyan issue, such as the holding of elections, the distribution of higher centers and the formation of a new government.

In addition, Haftar will assist with a military delegation and meet with the head of the Egyptian committee in charge of Libyan affairs. He will also meet with Egyptian military and security officials to coordinate the situation in Libya.

In the context, the sources indicated that Cairo seeks to close the gap between the Libyan parliament and the army in the oil file and other files, and to discuss and study the initiatives that took place in Morocco and Geneva. And it seeks to eliminate the differences between the army and Parliament.
