Virgil van Dyck, Liverpool defender, believes that his colleague Fabinho has provided excellent levels in the center of the defense when facing Chelsea.
Juergen Klopp had to push Fabinho to center defense due to the injury of duo Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in the match, in which Chelsea were brought down with two goals to nil.
Van Dyck said in comments, especially on his club’s website: “I told Fabinho that it was great, preventing a strong forward like Werner from scoring is a wonderful effort that deserves praise.
“Everyone knows how wonderful Fabinho is,” added the Dutchman, “it’s good to be there, given the injuries that occurred suddenly.”
Regarding the difficulty of winning, he explained, “All games are difficult and strong and we must concentrate on our efforts to win.”
With Liverpool controlling the ball in the first half, Sadio Mane fled and was about to be left alone with Kepa, but Andreas Christensen threw him to the ground to give him a warning, canceling him after returning to VAR and giving him a red card just a minute before from the end of the first part.
“The firing was definitely in our favor, but we played hard even before that,” added Van Dyck.
In the 50th minute, Liverpool took advantage of the numerical advantage, with a cross from Bobby Firmino, which Sadio Mané headed in, announcing the first goal.
At 4 minutes, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa finished with a disastrous error by passing the ball close to Mane’s foot, cutting it off and scoring the second goal.
Van Dyck concluded: “The performance was good despite the penalty we were awarded, but it is good that it stopped.”
Liverpool completely controlled the course of things despite the disturbances of Timo Werner, who only managed to score a penalty in the 75th minute after a mistake by Thiago Alcantara.
But Jorginho secured the end of the bad night for Frank Lampard and the Blues, squandering the penalty, for the first time in their history with Chelsea thanks to Alison’s brilliance.
At the height of the Premier League second round, Chelsea disappointed their fans not only in terms of results, but also in terms of performance, against Liverpool.
Liverpool, featuring Mohamed Salah, won 2-0 to claim their sixth point following their 4-3 win over Leeds United in the first round, thanks to two goals from Sadio Mane in 50 and 54 minutes.
As for Chelsea, their scoring stopped at 3 points after beating Brighton in the first round 3-1.
