More than 5 years after his departure from Zamalek, Jamie Pacheco’s name has emerged once again as a possible candidate to lead the whites, succeeding Patrice Carteron, who terminated his contract and left White.
After an exit, described as full of problems, Mortada Mansour, president of Zamalek, revealed that the Portuguese, who led Zamalek at the start of the 2014/2015 season and in 12 games won 9, drew twice and lost one, which Pacheco he is among the candidates to succeed Carteron.
FilGoal.com had this interview with Jaime Pacheco.
Why haven’t you coached any teams since leaving Tianjin Teda, China, in 2017?
Not training any teams since then was my decision. To be honest, the health problems of one of my relatives were the cause, but I was working as a technical advisor for a Chinese group that builds soccer schools in Europe and has a great contribution to a Chinese club. During that period, I received offers from Portugal, England, China, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Cyprus, Morocco and even Egypt.
As a player, I won everything possible, and as a coach, I have the right to choose where I would like to work. I have to feel that those who ask me have similar goals to mine and play to win, and in many shows I didn’t feel like that was there.
Did Zamalek approach you, either formally or informally, to train the team to succeed Patrice Carteron?
Everyone who knows me knows that I am a transparent person, yes, the contact was made through my lawyer and this matter made me happy.
But that’s all that happened, just one connection.
Is the idea of going back to Zamalek interesting to you, especially since the team is 3 wins away from winning the African Champions League?
And who doesn’t like to train the Zamalek? We are talking about a giant club, and not just in Egypt. He always said he would go back to Zamalek one day, just like he went back to all the clubs he trained at before, he just didn’t know when.
Did you have special requests from the Zamalek management, such as the number of attendees or a penalty clause?
These issues are not covered in press interviews.
Are you still following the Zamalek team and what is your impression of the team?
Yes, it is a team that has good players and beautiful football. I watched the Aswan game, which the team lost, and I think the team failed to score goals.
Your first period at Zamalek was good in terms of results, but did you suddenly leave?
I did not leave suddenly. I informed the administration of my intention not to complete the mission before I left.
I don’t think my departure from Zamalek was full of problems, and I left the team at the top of the league.
Will your previous problems with Mortada Mansour, president of Zamalek, be an obstacle if you return to coach the team?
Murtaza Mansour is a great person and a great leader. This is what I always say about him. I disagree with him healthily on how to win, I respect him a lot and I know that he also respects me.
What is your message to Zamalek fans?
I always had a great relationship with the fans of all the teams that I trained, but the Zamalek fans were special. They always put me in a special place, I miss them a lot and I send them a lot of love.
