After 9 months of closure, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Army, Khalifa Haftar, announced, this Friday, the approval of the reopening of the oil fields and the resumption of exports, provided that guarantees are provided for the fair distribution of their financial income, and not used to support and finance terrorism or to be the object of theft and looting.
This is how it came in a speech by Haftar on Friday to the Libyans, in which he said that the General Command of the Army does not hesitate to make concessions whenever they are in the interest of the Libyans, with the aim of avoiding a further deterioration of the situation. economic in the country.
He also clarified that “the profits paid by our soldiers are not neglected, and there is no place for the colonizers.”
He continued: “We will fight to preserve the unity of Libya and we will not hesitate to make concessions with full confidence and satisfaction without this.”
Solution initiatives have failed
On the other hand, Haftar pointed out that all previous initiatives for a solution had failed because they focused on sharing power without paying attention to the difficult living conditions suffered by the Libyan citizen.
He added that all the initiatives that he announces from time to time under the slogan of facing the crisis have also failed, because they serve to prolong the crisis, according to himself.
It is noteworthy that oil production in Libya, whose income flows to the accounts of the Central Bank in the capital Tripoli, has been forcibly stopped since January 18, resulting in a loss of income of up to 9 billion and $ 600 million, according to the latest data from the National Oil Corporation two weeks ago.
For the first time in the history of Libya
The oil fields issue is one of the most important contracts in the ongoing negotiations between the Libyan parties. Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath sources reported a few days ago that the Libyan army needed to obtain US and international guarantees on the distribution of oil revenues, before reopening the fields and ports to resume oil exports.
The army also demanded at that time to establish a clear and transparent mechanism to guarantee the fair distribution of oil revenues to all Libyan people and all regions, and not to go to support armed militias and foreign mercenaries, and to allow knowledge how and where to spend them.
Furthermore, a source close to Haftar told Reuters that the military commander was able to impose the condition of equitable distribution of oil revenues for the first time in Libya’s history, as he himself put it.
