English Tottenham Hotspur defeated host Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Bulgaria, with two goals to one in the first round of the European League qualifiers.
This victory is José Mourinho’s 100th as a coach in European competitions.
The Portuguese has won 30 games with Chelsea, 24 with Real Madrid, 18 with Manchester United, 16 with Porto, 10 with Inter Milan and 2 with Tottenham.
José Mourinho, Tottenham coach, entered the game with his starting eleven, despite the rival’s modesty.
However, the Bulgarian clash came in the 71st minute, when Georgi Menshev got ahead of the owners of the field, putting Tottenham in a great dilemma, threatening to miss the European championships this season.
Mourinho, on the other hand, pushed all his offensive cards during the second half, inserting Tangoy Ndombele, Eric Lamilla and Lucas Mora, instead of Moussa Sissoko, Stephen Bergvin and Davinson Sánchez.
The game’s turning point came with two consecutive expulsions from the Bulgarian national team, for Denis Almeida and Persant Caragarin in the 77th and 78th minutes.
Tottenham won a penalty, which striker Harry Kane successfully scored in the 80th minute, bringing the Londoners back to the fore.
Before French substitute Ndombele scored the quick lead in the 85th minute after a pass from fellow substitute Lucas Moura, to save coach Mourinho from a forceful surprise.
In another match, Glasgow Rangers, led by Stephen Gerrard, defeated Gibraltarian Lincoln Reed, with five unanswered goals.
Turkish Galatasaray also defeated their host Nevci Baku of Azerbaijan, by three goals to one.
