The head of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, announced his desire to cede power and hand over his responsibilities to the executive branch, which will leave the dialogue committee at the latest by the end of next October. .
In a speech to Libyans on Wednesday evening, Al-Sarraj welcomed consultations and meetings between the two parties to the crisis sponsored by the United Nations, which aims to unify institutions ahead of the elections. legislative and presidential laws, and asked the Dialogue Committee to accelerate the formation of the new authority to ensure a peaceful and smooth transition and leave the country to a safe coast.
Al-Sarraj added that he will remain in power until the transfer of power to a new prime minister, and expressed his hope that the dialogue committee will complete its functions before the end of next October.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Council of State of Libya announced that it wanted to “end the transition phase and go to the elections.” He added that “the Moroccan dialogue came to unify sovereign institutions.”
Delegations from the Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan Council of State, last week in Morocco, signed the final draft of the agreement they had recently reached.
The agreement included mechanisms to select personalities to occupy sovereign positions in the Libyan state, as well as mechanisms to combat corruption in sovereign positions.
The Libyan Libyan Political Agreement will be formally signed in Morocco in the last week of September.
Morocco hosted the Libyan dialogue sessions between the delegations of the Supreme Council of State and the Tobruk Parliament, with the aim of stabilizing the ceasefire and opening negotiations to resolve the differences between the Libyan factions.
