After the Bahrain-Israeli agreement, Abu Trika announces his position on normalization

Retired Egyptian international footballer Mohamed Abu Trika confirmed on Friday that normalization with Israel is “treason.”

This occurred in a tweet by Abu Trika, through his verified Twitter account, following the announcement of the normalization agreement between Bahrain and Israel.

He said: “It is natural that the fight and the competition reach the top, not the bottom.”

He added: “Normalization (with Israel) is a betrayal. Palestine is a problem for the brave, not for the followers and the weak.”

Earlier Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that Bahrain would join the United Arab Emirates in normalizing with Israel.

Bahrain’s official news agency quoted his country’s Foreign Ministry as saying that Trump and King Hamad bin Isa agreed, during a phone call, to establish full diplomatic relations between Tel Aviv and Manama.

The announcement of Bahrain’s normalization agreement came about a month after the UAE announced a similar agreement, as observers believe that Manama belongs to Abu Dhabi.

Palestinian factions condemned the Israeli-Bahraini deal, with some seeing it as an insistence on “implementing the deal of the century,” while others argued that the Arab League’s stance not to condemn normalization and its failure to pass a draft resolution Palestinian in this regard whetted the appetite of some Arab countries for this matter.

Following Trump’s announcement, Bahrain will be the fourth Arab country to sign or agree to sign a normalization agreement with Israel, after Egypt (1979), Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
