Restaurants are potential hotspots for Corona … and less of a role for public transportation

A study released Thursday by US health authorities highlighted the potential role of restaurants and bars in the Corona pandemic, but downplayed the role of shared transportation and offices.

Restaurants and bars are suspicious, given that there are few or no masks for customers to eat and drink, but there were still few serious studies on the hierarchy of the degree of dangerousness of public places.

And contact tracing operations in several states showed that many people were infected with the virus in restaurants and bars.

The new study goes in the same direction, although it does not definitively confirm where people were infected.

Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distributed questionnaires to about 300 people who attended tests last July at 11 US hospitals, and half of them tested positive.

Among the questions asked in the questionnaire: Did you go shopping in the 14 days before your symptoms appeared? Did you take a common transport? Did you go to a house, an office, a gym, a church, a restaurant or a bar where there were about 10 people?

And the researchers found that those who tested positive or negative as a result of their tests wear masks to the same extent, and act in the same way in terms of prevention in all kinds of places except two, which are bars and restaurants.

It was noted that the number of those who went to restaurants and bars among those who tested positive was twice that of those who tested negative.

It is assumed that this study will be confirmed by other research, mainly because it does not distinguish between the interior and exterior spaces of restaurants.

However, this study confirms the need to wear a mask to avoid infection by the dispersion of droplets of any size.
