Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo became the first European footballer to score 100 international goals.
Ronaldo scored both goals in his country’s victory over Sweden with a score of 2-0 in European League of Nations competitions.
The Portugal captain scored the first goal from a free kick that hit the top corner of the Swedish national team to score goal number 100.
The 35-year-old Juventus forward also scored a second goal with another great shot from outside the area.
Ronaldo, who played 81 minutes, is just eight goals away from breaking the world record.
Iranian Ali Daei, the only man to score more international goals than Ronaldo, scored 109 goals during his soccer career from 1993 to 2006.
The other two players to top the goal list after Ronaldo are Indian Sunil Chitri (72 goals) and Lionel Messi (70 goals).
Thus, Portugal, champion of the European League of Nations, has won its first two matches in the competition this year.
Portugal’s mission was made easier after Gustav Svensson was expelled from the Swedish national team after receiving two yellow cards, but there was a disadvantage in his victory, with the departure of Bernardo Silva, the Manchester City player, on suspicion of suffering a muscle strain.
Portugal could have won by a higher score had it not been for Bruno Fernández’s shot off the crossbar and Robin Olsen blocking another shot from Ronaldo, who was looking for a hat-trick in his 165th game.
Ronaldo scored almost half of his international goals, after turning 30, with 49 goals in 47 games.
