Amir Mortada Mansour, General Supervisor of Football in Zamalek, revealed the scenarios of what he expressed at the meeting of the CAF Club Committee on the fate of the African Champions League and the Confederation Championships.
Amir Mortada said on Zamalek TV: “CAF has offered us to complete the Champions League and Confederation matches as previously scheduled, or to implement the Moroccan Federation’s proposal to postpone the two tournaments for a month.”
“We clearly and explicitly reject the Moroccan Federation’s proposal to postpone the semi-finals of the African Champions League,” he added.
He continued: “We were surprised by Al-Ahly’s approval of the proposal to postpone the Champions League, although he adhered to the return of the Egyptian League and played matches despite the presence of Corona cases on many teams.”
Pyramids also continued to refuse to postpone the Confederacy, with the remaining six clubs agreeing to postponement.
“Ms. Hanan Al-Zaini, Al-Ahly representative at the CAF Clubs meeting, asked for a deadline and left the meeting, then came back and informed us of the club’s decision, which is to accept the postponement proposal” .
He added: “If I am allowed to advise Al-Ahly, the team must now play the Champions League games because it is more prepared than Wydad, who suffers many injuries for Corona.”
He noted: “I asked CAF officials at the meeting if the tournament will be postponed again if coronavirus cases increase in October or not.”
He concluded his remarks: “We must end the African Championship because there is no championship in the world that lasts so long.”
