(Masrawy):

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has published a promotional clip announcing the new archaeological discovery, which Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, visited today, Sunday, in the archaeological area of Saqqara.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that several other promotional films will be released, until full details of the disclosure are announced soon.

Last Tuesday, September 1, “Masrawy” published the news of the discovery, highlighting that the announcement would be made upon the return of the Minister of Antiquities from the inauguration of the exhibition of the Kings of the Sun in the Czech Republic.

Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, accompanied by Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, inspected the excavations of the Egyptian archaeological mission operating in the antiquities area of Saqqara, which resulted in the discovery of a deep burial pit with more than 13 human coffins closed for more than 2,500 years. The well is about 11 meters deep and colorful wooden coffins were found stacked on top of each other.

Al-Anani was eager to go down the well with Dr. Mustafa Waziri, to inspect the discovery in preparation to announce it soon at a press conference in the Saqqara antiques area, and thanked the site workers for working on difficult conditions while adhering to precautionary measures.

Initial studies indicate that these coffins are completely closed, and have not been opened since they were buried inside the well and that they are not the only ones, it is likely that more are found within the niches on the sides of the well, one of which It has been opened and a series of archaeological finds and wooden coffins were found inside. As of yet, the identity and positions of the owners of these caskets, or their total number, have not been determined, but these questions will be answered in the coming days through ongoing excavation work.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is organizing a promotional campaign on social networks during the next period, to promote this archaeological discovery, and its first promotional films are scheduled to be published on Sunday evening.
