London – (BBC)
The Chinese city of Wuhan, which witnessed the first outbreaks of infection with the Corunna virus late last year, announced the registration of new groups of cases, as well as in the north-eastern province of Jilin.
Wuhan reported that five new cases were registered on Monday after the first case was confirmed on Sunday since April 3.
Authorities said all the recently recorded cases were in a residential complex.
China has begun to relax restrictions in recent weeks, with a decrease in cases.
However, health authorities and experts have warned of the possibility of an increase in cases of HIV infection at a time when countries are beginning to reduce strict closure measures and move people more freely.
The few cases recently reported by Wuhan are the first since the strict closure measures ended on April 8, and all cases have been classified as symptomatic.
In addition, over the weekend, the city of Shulan in Jilin province, which is near the border with Russia and North Korea, announced 11 new cases of infection.
What’s going on in Shulan?
Chinese official media reported that Shulan recorded 11 cases on Saturday, all of which were broadcast locally.
The new injuries prompted the city to declare martial law and impose closure measures, and the government also ordered that all public places be temporarily closed, according to the “Global Times” report.
Authorities have elevated the city of Shulan to a high-risk city, and it is the only city in the country that has this rating.
All residents were required to remain in their homes, while only allowing one family member to go out every day to buy basic goods.
All public transportation has been suspended, and taxis cannot leave the city.
This comes after China announced last week that it rated all regions of the country as low risk.
The nearby city of Jilin raised the risk level from low to medium after two new cases were registered, and it is feared that the province as a whole is at risk.
Other cities in the province have raised the highest alert level, and the nearby city of Changchun and Dongfeng County say that all people returning from Shulan must remain in quarantine for 14 days, and authorities suspended train services. from Shulan to various cities.
Neighboring Liaoning province also reported a new case on Sunday, for a 23-year-old man who had recently returned from Jilin.
What Led to New Registered Injuries at Shulan?
All cases were reported to be related to a 45-year-old woman who was doing laundry at a local public security office and transmitted the infection to her husband, three sisters and other family members.
However, it is unclear how the woman was infected with the virus, and reports say she had no recent travel history outside of the province, and that no contact was known between her and anyone who knew she was infected, and the China Daily reported that 276 people it contacted were quarantined. The boycott site appears to have played a role, as it is located on the border with North Korea and Russia.
No official cases were reported in North Korea, although Russia saw more than 200,000 cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The neighboring border province of Heilongjiang has witnessed a significant increase in the number of cases from abroad, which are Chinese citizens who have returned from Russia.
Similarly, according to a local government official, eight people who had been infected with the Russian virus to Shulan from April 8 to 30 were also found to be infected with the virus, and another 300 who had returned during this period of time were quarantined.
The Jilin Provincial Committee secretary said authorities will track every close contact, every person suspected of having the virus, and every piece of information, adding that they track the behavior of every infected person in an effort to access the source.
What is the situation in the rest of China?
China has seen its incidence drop for weeks and gradually began to relax restrictions.
Some citizens returned to their jobs, some schools were reopened, and the Disneyland Theme Park in Shanghai welcomed visitors for the first time after three and a half months of rest.
However, on Monday, China also announced 17 new cases across the country, the highest daily increase since April 28, bringing the total number of cases to 82,918, as well as 4,633 deaths.
Governments and health experts have warned that the epidemic is not over, as restrictions have begun to ease in several European countries and in the United States.
