Dr. Ashraf Hatem, head of the House Committee on Health Affairs and a member of the Supreme Committee on Respiratory Viruses of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, revealed that the first antiviral drug used to treat the Corona virus has been launched. in pharmacies, for patients infected with the emerging coronavirus from isolated cases at home.
Hatem said, in a press release sent to him today, that this drug is “Aviravir”, which includes the active ingredient “Favipiravir”, noting that offering the drug in pharmacies would provide it faster for cases that need it, in instead of going to hospitals, and waiting until they can arrive accordingly, thanking the approval of the responsible authorities in the state in this approach.
Masrawy publishes the most important information about the drug that is offered in pharmacies as follows:
1- It is considered an analog of Russian and Japanese drugs to treat Corona.
2- It has shown positive results in the treatment of “simple” and “moderate” cases of corona abroad, and also in Egypt when it is dispensed for cases infected by the virus.
3- The drug is available in the form of “tablets”, and not as an injection like “remdesivir”, and so far it has been approved for use only in hospitals.
4- It appeared in 2014 as a treatment for influenza in Japan, and was sent to more than 40 countries for clinical trials against Corona.
5- It has been adopted by more than one country in their treatment protocols, including Egypt, India, China, Russia, as well as Japan.
6- It is manufactured in Egypt and has obtained approval from the Egyptian Medicines Authority to put it in pharmacies.
7- Quantities were exported to countries on various continents after it was manufactured in Egypt during the first wave of the emergence of Corona.
8- It acts to stop and inhibit the proliferation of viruses within cells infected with these viruses.
9- A drug that is effective in dealing with severe colds and various respiratory viral diseases, and is also used in the treatment of the emerging corona virus.
