Alexandria – Muhammad Amer:

With the chimes of 1 a.m. on Friday, clouds and cumulus clouds covered the sky over Alexandria, and soon it rained heavily without interruption, starting the fiercest wave of bad weather to hit the coastal city since 2015.

According to the basic program of the port of Alexandria, the governorate is exposed to the “rest of the broom”, which is scheduled to last 4 days, accompanied by strong storms, southwest winds and a marked drop in temperature.

Water meter

Although the inhabitants of the coastal city got used to about 18 rainy peaks during the winter, traffic was almost completely paralyzed, especially on the Corniche, Abu Qir, Al Tunfa and under bridges in all neighborhoods of the province.

The rain flooded the wealthy neighborhoods and the center of the country, as the “Victor Manuel” squares in Smouha, and “Muhammad Ali” in Manshiyya, Cleopatra, Raml Children’s Hospital, Abyss clinics and others were turned into pools of water after that the water level in the streets rose to more than one meter.

As the rains continued, Sheikh Muhammad Khashaba, deputy secretary of the Alexandria Endowments Ministry, confirmed that the mosques would be opened to the worshipers for Friday prayers.

Khashaba explained that bad weather and non-stop torrential rains prevented the establishment or performance of Friday prayers in the squares outside the mosques, saying: “Whoever can go down in the heavy rain to the nearest mosque, let him go, and who cannot and cannot pray at home ”.

5 victims

Torrential rain killed 5 people and injured 6 others in the collapse of two properties in the customs and Karmoz areas, west of Alexandria.

The examination revealed that the two properties were an old and dilapidated building, the first 4-story building whose roof had completely collapsed, and the second 3-story building and parts of it collapsed to the ground surface.

The governor ordered the competent authorities, in coordination with the Director of the Social Solidarity Directorate, to assign the numbers “034234131 – Hotline 114”, to report homeless people, to provide them with urgent assistance during the rain.
