Biden received 73 million votes, the highest number of votes a presidential candidate has ever received.
Joe Biden won the US election to become the next president of the United States, beating Donald Trump, after an impressive vote count after Tuesday’s election.
The BBC’s predictions showed that Biden won the main battlefield in Pennsylvania, pushing him to surpass 270 electoral votes, the number required to win the race for the White House.
For its part, the Trump campaign has indicated that its candidate has no intention of admitting defeat.
Biden, the president-elect of the United States, said it was time for America to “come together and heal.”
He added: “With the campaign over, it is time to put the anger and harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation.”
With this result, Trump became the first president to serve a single term as president since the 1990s.
The BBC’s predictions that Biden will win are based on unofficial results from states that have already completed their vote count and expected results from states such as Wisconsin, where the count continues.
The elections saw the highest turnout since 1900.
Biden garnered more than 74 million votes so far, the highest number for an American presidential candidate, while Trump received more than 70 million, the second-highest tally in history.
How did Trump react?
There was no immediate comment from Trump, who was playing golf when news of Biden’s victory was announced.
Trump declared himself the winner of the election earlier. Since then, it has reported irregularities in the count, but has not provided any evidence of fraud.
