Bayern Munich and Egypt’s Al-Ahly entered into “skirmishes” via Twitter, ahead of their next meeting in the Club World Cup semi-finals.
Bayern posted a tweet after Al-Ahly defeated Al-Duhail, Qatar, in the second round of the tournament, saying: “Bayern will face Al-Ahly in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup!
And the Bayern account announced in another post about the date of the match, writing: “Our date is Monday 2/8”.
The latest tweet sparked widespread controversy, as some Al-Ahly fans interpreted it as saying that Bayern promised their team to suffer a terrible defeat similar to Barcelona, which suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Bavarian giants 8-2 , in the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season.
The Al-Ahly club soon responded to Bayern’s tweet, writing: “Al-Ahly Eagles are ready.”
The winner of the Al-Ahly and Bayern match will qualify for the World Cup final, to face the winner of the second semi-final, which will bring together the Tigres de México and the Brazilian Palmeiras.
