The Cairo Criminal Court ruled, in absentia, that former Finance Minister Youssef Boutros Ghali was sentenced to 10 years in prison for retrial proceedings in the case known in the media as metal plates.

During the hearing of the case, “Al-Hinnawi” asked the court to treat “Ghali” in a similar way to that of the fourth defendant in the case, Helmut Gengbelt, a “German”, and a representative of the company supplying metal plates. for automobiles. , who was tried by special power of attorney and a sentence was handed down on January 23, 2017 of his innocence.

The court had previously issued a default verdict against “Ghali” on July 12, 2011, punishing him with 10 years in prison. It also ruled to punish Ahmed Nazif, the former prime minister, with one year of conditional prison, and five years in prison for Major General Habib Al-Adly, a former interior minister.
