As Taylor Swift’s Folklore spends its second consecutive week at the Billboard 200, Swifties around the world continue to drop their proverbial teeth in the 16 indie-lane tracks of the surprise album.
To turn whimsical, incidental and astonishingly poetic, FolkloreThe tracklist also gives musically inclined Swifties a lot of new material to smear and they have delivered in full force, sharing covers and reinterpretations of everything from album opener “The One” and the swooning “Invisible String” to Bon Iver duet “Exile” and teenage love story “Betty.”
Below, Billboard ran five Folklore covers you need to hear through the likes of Brie Larson, Maisie Peters, Sam Tsui and more.
Tenille Arts, “Invisible String”
Playing a sparkly pink acoustic guitar, Tenille Arts channeled Swift’s country roots with her acoustic take on favorite track “Invisible String.” It’s far from their only return from Swift’s catalog; in the past, the Canadian country singer has also treated 1989-era hit “Style”, inspiring Fearless ballad “Change”, and even entertained “The Lucky One” from 2012’s Red with Britney Spears’ 2000 classic “Lucky.”
Brie Larson, “The 1”
The Oscar winner drops off her guitar skills to record her on wild opener ‘The 1’, dedicated to her friend Jessie. After thinking about her impressive vocal chops, it’s no wonder the actress had a short life career as a teen pop star in the mid – 2000s, just a few years before Swift broke on stage with her own self titled debut album.
Maisie Peters, “Betty”
This piano-powered cover of “Betty” is so tender, it even caught the eye of Swift even after Peters shared it on social media. “My ears are blessed on this beautiful Tuesday,” the superstar wrote on Twitter in response to the rising cover of the rising star.
Sam Tsui, “exile ship”
He is best known for his imaginatively written major pop hits, and Tsui reinterpreted ‘Exile’ as a solo track, tackling both the verses of Bon Iver and Swift in an octave-jumping vocal performance accompanied by Jason Pitts on acoustic guitar.
Izzie Naylor, “August”
Upcoming alt-pop singer Izzie Naylor dives into the Folklore aesthetic with her cover of “Augustus”, performing her version of the track in a field of wild flowers. Through an acoustic guitar strut, the UK artist even channeled Swift’s appearance into the “Cardigan” video in her own white white nightgown.
