Dr Lupo turns out, unfortunately, to be the ‘1’ Fall Guys’ Player in the world

Fall Guys Twitter drama has been the order of the day this week, starting with the account of the game that TimtheTatMan encouraged / mocked as he struggled on his way to getting his first win. Today, the account says it was looking for the no. 1-player in the world, called “The Fallen One” and apparently received a gift for a free costume. After spending a morning asking who the mystery player might be, we apparently have a really surprising winner: Twitch streamer Dr. Lupo.

I would guess that the number 1 player in the whole world would be just one random person who, through a combination of skill and luck, is incredibly good Fall Guys, no different than when Fortnite celebrated its first ranking event and, as you would expect, none of the big streamers appeared among the top scorers. But for an already famous streamer to truly become the wind the mysterious Fallen One? It is by faith, but at this point we have no reason to suspect anything. According to his stream here, he has 58 wins, which is a lot of wins.

“This will put such a goal on my back,” he says in the video above.

This week, I think, we got a bit of an example of something Fall Guys could look like an esport. It will never be a game of high skill, with high stakes League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch as even Fortnite. But that’s good: there’s room for a lot more than those experiences when we talk about league-based entertainment. Fall Guys is, without a doubt, from top to bottom, a game show, and it could really do well to continue to be used as a model for some sort of personality-driven, wacky weekly show featuring famous streamers, regular people, mainstream celebrities and whatever you have .

The exploits of TimtheTatman showed us how well this game can work: most of the time, streamers succeed by showing their skill. Here, the game is entertaining enough, win or lose, that that does not matter enough.

For now, I think, I’ll see what Lupo gets today, now that he’s going to walk in the rarest costume in the world, trying to keep this region alive, because everyone is doing their best to knock him down. It will be great.
