Dr. Dre and Nicole Young are dating directly from their marriage.
Young filed divorce papers on Monday from the Compton-raised icon in Los Angeles Superior Court, The Times confirmed. He cited irreconcilable differences for the split, which occurs after 24 years of marriage.
Lawyers for the rapper-turned-tycoon, whose real name is Andre Young, did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment. Nicole Young’s attorney also declined to comment on the separation.
The separated couple married in May 1996 and share two children, their son Truice, 23, and their daughter Truly, 19.
Young, a Newhall-based attorney, seeks spousal support from Dr. Dre. TMZ reported that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, which, if true, could make the hip-hop mogul’s billionaire fortune split a chore.
The 55-year-old businessman is worth an estimated $ 800 million, according to Forbes, who has always included Dre on his list of the world’s richest hip-hop artists.
Dre rose to fame from the streets of Compton in the 1980s in groundbreaking gangsta rap group NWA. The six-time Grammy Award winner built his empire as a music producer with Death Row Records and is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment. He later co-founded Beats Electronics, the high-end headphone and speaker company. He sold that company to Apple Inc. in 2014 for more than $ 3 million, just as he declared himself the “first billionaire in hip-hop.”
He also co-founded the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and Innovation Business, made possible by a joint donation of $ 70 million in 2013. He also owns several properties in Los Angeles.
