In case you have not heard, you are formally invited to reunite with the characters of Downton Abbey by streaming the series on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock!
Whether you’re a super fan who missed The Dowager Countess’ biting quips or want to experience the story of the award – winning show for the first time, there’s no doubt that the magic of the show is due to the actors. Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Allen Leech, Lily James and more.
Now that the show is on Peacock, we’re looking at where the show’s most memorable artists have landed since the series’ run.
Of course, we saw most of them again last year Downton Abbey film, but many have also starred in blockbusters and as leaders of new TV series, too.

The show served as the actress’ breakout role, and after her character Lady Rose MacClare left the show for her new life in New York, Lily James took off on the big screen, starring in films such as Mamma Mia! Here we go again and yesterday.

Before Maggie Smith ever entertained us as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham with a biting tongue, we knew her from her iconic role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in Harry Potter, the last film she filmed while Downton Abbey aired. Since both of those franchises ended, Smith has voiced a character in the movie Sherlock Gnomes and she will be in the upcoming movie A Boy Called Christmas alongside Kristen Wiig and Sally Hawkins.

We loved watching the arc of the character of Allen Leech, whose heartbreaking love story was one of the highlights of the show, and were excited about seeing the actor in movies like The Imitation Game while he was still on the show wie. After the release of his character, Leech also died in films such as Bohemian Rhapsody and The Hunter’s Prayer.

Hugh Bonneville had already made a name for himself in films such as Notting Hill before taking on the role of Robert Crawley, and since his turn as Earl of Grantham, Bonneville has appeared in Paddington films and the show Sofia the First as narrator.

We were heartbroken when (spoiler!) Jessica Brown Findlay’s character died during childcare, but that set the actress free to star in the Hulu series Harlots and was cast as a returning character in the upcoming Brave New World Series.

We only had to spend three seasons with the beloved character Matthew Crawley, but that did not stop our time with Dan Stevens! Finally, we saw the heartthrob in movies like The Cobbler and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb before Stevens took the iconic role as the Beast in the live action Beauty and the Beast. The star was also a main character in Legion and will be in the upcoming horror film, T he Rental.

Laura Carmichael’s big break was cast as Lady Edith Crawley in the series, and we’ve seen her since in the TV mini-series The Spanish Princess and in The Secrets She Keeps.

After playing Jim Carter for 52 episodes of Charles Carson, we heard him voice Cogman in Transformers: The Last Knight and saw him appear in the TV series Knightfall.

After all these years with Mr. Bates spent, we saw Brendan Coyle surprise the role in last year’s film adaptation, as well as in films like Me Before You and Mary Queen of Scots.

The breakout role of Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley led her to appear in many other shows, such as Godless, Good Behavior and this year’s Apple + TV series Defending Jacob.

Right when Joanna Froggatt starred as Anna Bates, she was cast as the voice actor for Wendy in the children’s series Bob de Bouwer, as well as in the shows The Commons and Liar.
