Donald Trump’s impeachment defense team has added three new lawyers

Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris, two prominent South Carolina lawyers, have agreed to defend Trump with North Carolina defense attorney Joshua Howard.

“We’re on the team,” Harris confirmed to CNN on Friday.

CNN previously reported that law firm partners Gasser and Harris were contacted. Harris confirmed that the legal team now has five attorneys but declined to comment on whether they would add additional lawyers.

Harris responded to South Carolina lawyer Butch Bowers, who leads the defense.

“He’s putting it together. He’s giving assignments,” Harris said. “We have a lot of work to do.”

Howard revealed in the filing in court that he had joined Trump’s defense, and asked the judge to adjourn the defendant, citing his need to stay in Washington for the foreseeable future.

Defendant’s adviser has acknowledged the position on the defense team handling former President Trump’s pending impeachment hearing before the United States Senate. The important thing, ”he wrote.

Howard and Geyser could not immediately be reached for comment.

Deborah Barbier, a South Carolina legal practitioner, joined the team earlier this week. She has worked closely on several high-profile cases involving Harris and Geyser. All three are former federal lawyers. Early in his career, Gasser served as interim U.S. attorney for South Carolina.
