Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher David Price announced that he is choosing not to participate in the 2020 MLB season. Price tweeted a statement Saturday afternoon:

The left-hander said he made the decision after consulting with his family and the Dodgers.

The 2012 Cy Young Award winner was traded to Los Angeles by the Boston Red Sox as part of the Mookie Betts Agreement for Alex Executioner, Connor Wong, Jeter Downs and cash considerations on February 10.

His decision means that Los Angeles fans won’t be able to see him climb the mound until 2021 at the earliest.

While it is certainly a blow to the club’s initial rotation, perhaps there is no better-designed roster to endure a loss as big as the Dodgers’. Price ranked as the third starter in the rotation behind Clayton. Kershaw and walker Buehler, two All-Stars in their own right. The team also carries Ross Stripling, Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin, each a former top prospect who has experience getting started.

That list does not include Julio Urias and Alex Wood, two arms already drawn at the rear end of the rotation. Los Angeles may mix it up a bit to replace Price depending on your clashes

Still, the Dodgers are losing a pitcher who consistently pitches more than 100 innings and last year in Boston he compiled a 4.28 ERA and a 1,314 WHIP to go with 128 strikeouts in 32 walks.

It remains to be seen how Price’s loss will affect the odds for the Los Angeles World Series. Caesars Palace listed the club at +350 (bet $ 100 to win $ 350) to win a championship in 2020, tied with the New York Yankees as favorites in the truncated 60-game MLB season.

Although he hasn’t yet released a single pitch in his new club’s regulation, Price has taken a step forward to help care for minor league players in the Dodgers’ organization. When the coronavirus As the pandemic forced MLB to go on hiatus, Price personally donated $ 1,000 to each of the team’s 220 players in the Los Angeles farm system.

By choosing to exit the season, Brodie Brazil NBC Sports California notes that Price loses nearly $ 12 million in salary.
