By 2021, each Dodge vehicle will have a supercharged 6.2L HEMI Hellcat V-8 engine and over 700 horsepower. And that includes an unlikely candidate: the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
In the automotive world, the word “Hellcat” is reminiscent of super powerful Dodge muscle cars. But for just one year, Dodge will also build the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat 2021 Special Edition. Expect them to sell out quickly and become instant American muscle-collecting cars. We say that without even knowing the price, which Dodge has yet to announce. You can place your order this fall, with deliveries starting in early 2021.
Has there ever been a more powerful outdoor adventure transport platform than this new Durango SRT Hellcat? No. This three-row, seven-passenger, all-wheel-drive SUV can tow and transport a ton of people and equipment almost anywhere, and very, very fast!
HEMI Hellcat Power!
Dodge claims the new Durango is “the most powerful SUV of all.” That claim is difficult to dispute when you look at the numbers. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat produces 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. That power comes from a large manufacturer’s factory, which offers full warranties and dealer support nationwide.
Expect those kinds of specialized aftermarket tuner numbers. You don’t expect them to be available at your local car dealer.
While it’s a ton of ponies under the hood, it’s the least amount of power found in any of Dodge’s 6.2L HEMI Hellcat V-8 vehicles. The 2020 Challenger SRT Super Stock generates an incredible 807 horsepower, while the 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye offers 797 horsepower.
Without a doubt, the secondary market will find even more ponies under the new hood of Durango Hellcat. However, we are not sure why you would need more power than that.
Durango SRT Hellcat Performance
The SUV in its driveway simply cannot compete against this new Durango in terms of performance. The Durango Hellcat can reach 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. You can also dispense the quarter mile in just 11.5 seconds, as certified by NHRA. If brute speed is your poison, then a top speed of 180 mph should wake you up.
The Durango SRT Hellcat is not only fast in a straight line, but can also handle turns at impressive speeds. Dodge’s sports car formula impresses with raw numbers and speed. Dodge is continually refining it into a truly enjoyable, holistic, and sporty driving experience package. We have a feeling this Durango will seriously induce driving, and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
Oh yeah. You even get Launch Control on the Durango SRT Hellcat. That feature is designed for perfect performance while running on a drag track. Stop signs have never been so much fun in an SUV!
Durango SRT Hellcat Features
Not only is there great under-hood power and impressive performance numbers, but the Durango SRT Hellcat also offers an aggressive look inside and out.
Outside, you get all the aggressive lines and muscle bumps you’d expect from a Dodge SRT product. For the Durango Hellcat, those features culminate in a front lip spoiler and a rear hatch spoiler. These combine to provide serious downforce gains for this great SUV. The black 20 × 10-inch SRT wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Zero All-Season Performance Wheels (295 / 45ZR20) look amazing and allow you to put all that power on the ground and keep the big brakes cool.
The new Durango SRT Hellcat offers a driver-centric cabin with plenty of sporty touches that exceed expectations. Gauges with red accents, forged carbon fiber interior accents, and heated and cooled Nappa leather with suede front seats let you know this machine is all about performance. You also get the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Bring all the toys
As with all Durangos, you can expect impressive towing and towing numbers. We don’t know the payload yet, but the Durango SRT Hellcat offers a class-leading towing capacity of 8,700 pounds.
2021 Dodge SRT Hellcat
“The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango offers Dodge performance as the charger for the three-row SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Director, Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars: Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT. , FCA – North America.
“And again for 2021, we have raised the bar even higher. The 710-horsepower Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It is the last piece of the puzzle and, together with the Charger and the Challenger, completes the Dodge brand performance line. “
By 2021, Dodge claims to offer “the most powerful SUV of all time”, the “fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world” and the “most powerful and fastest mass production sedan in the world”. Those are some high claims and some awesome vehicles.
We can’t wait to get behind all these beasts, especially this new Durango SRT Hellcat. We’d love to see what kind of chest-boosting boost noises we can get out of the exhaust while we depress the skinny pedal.
The first step would be not to crash it. The second step would be to load it up with friends and equipment and start an adventure.
