Today, Disney’s Epcot Park and Hollywood Studios opened their doors to guests for the first time since they closed on March 15 (Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom opened on July 11).

Hollywood Studios is the only one of the four parks to reach its opening day reservation capacity in Disney’s new park reservation system. As of Thursday morning, it was reserved and unavailable for the next eight days. None of the other parks has yet reached reserve capacity for a single day.

Disney continues its reopening plan despite alarmingly high Florida coronavirus infection numbers.

The reopening of Epcot and Hollywood Studios also comes at a very busy time for the global entertainment giant: Disneyland Paris in France opened earlier today, while Disneyland Hong Kong had to close just a month after the reopening due to an increase in Covid-19 cases there.

However, Disney argues that its recently improved safety protocols, such as hand sanitizer, mandatory masks, and social distancing, are sufficient protection to keep cast members (their term for employees) and guests in hotels and theme parks safe. from the Florida resort.

“The world is a different place, but we feel really prepared to operate in this new environment we are in,” Josh D’Amaro, president of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, told CNN Business on July 11.

That may have been true at the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom, where the focus is mostly on rides, but one of Epcot’s main draws is its food and beverage offering at the World Showcase.

In response to the pandemic’s closure, Disney will debut the Taste of Epcot Food & Wine Festival today rather than September. The event, one of the most anticipated events in all of Disney’s offerings, usually occurs in the fall.

Twenty pop-up kiosks offering themed food and drink menus are added to the park.

The real question is this: How can Disney enforce the use of masks during an event where guests are encouraged to stroll and graze? They will likely not wear masks while doing so since people can remove the masks while eating or drinking.

In addition to the new festival, which also incorporates elements of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival that was scheduled for spring, the rumor in the park will be about the state of the park’s renovation.

Earlier this year, there were many barricades around construction projects at Epcot as part of the major renovation that Disney announced at the 2019 D23 event.

Two new trips are in the works, including Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at the French Pavilion, originally slated to open this summer.

Spaceship Earth, an original tour of Epcot’s opening in 1982, was slated to close for renewal in May to the dismay of many Disney purists, but is now operating normally and the renovations have been postponed.
