Disney World closes Primeval Whirl, Rivers of Light

Orange County, Florida – With Disney World reopening its theme parks after a month-long closure due to the coronavirus, two attractions and a spectacular night will not return.

Disney confirmed Thursday that Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Rivers of Light: We Are One will not reopen. Also, on the permanently closed list is Stitch’s Great Escape in Magic Kingdom.

Before the coronavirus closed, Primeval Whirl had been relegated to “seasonal” status before being placed on “renewal” and never reopened.

As for Rivers of Light: We Are One, the nightly show debuted in 2017 as simply Rivers of Light. Last year, Disney unveiled a new version of the show, renaming it Rivers of Light: We Are One and adding moments from Disney animated films like Lion King.

While the closure of River of the Light might surprise some Disney fans, the least surprising closure is Stitch’s Great Escape. The attraction closed in January 2018. At the time, Disney said Stitch was a “seasonal” attraction. In the following months, reports emerged that the animatronics at the attraction had already been dismantled. Although still listed as “Temporarily Closed” on the Disney World website, Stitch is officially complete.

Disney did not share any details about the decision to close these attractions or what could replace them in the future.
