Destroy all humans! PC remake comes out today

Moaning for bad titles is easy money on this job, but every once in a while you complain because the title of a game is self-explanatory, critically undermining your presentation.

Destroy all humans! is a remake of the mid-2000s action game about wacky aliens from the 1950s who have come to Earth to harvest brains and exploit everything to kick them. Its launch today is the first time it will appear on PC.

You control one of the aliens in a third-person action style, executing a quest line where you brutalize cows, hit humans with cartoon weapons, and blow up cities with heat rays from your classic flying saucer. The originals were very much from the 2000s, from the mission design to the parts where he harvested brain stems by anally probing people until they got dirty. However, the atmosphere was extremely silly and comical rather than edgy, and my second-hand impression was always that they were a perfect game but were aging rapidly.

Apparently it’s a faithful new version, although it certainly looks much prettier. It will add a “restored, heavily rumored, never-before-seen: Lost Mission to Area 42!”, But primarily focuses on recreating the first game, including the powers of telekinesis, the weakly Hitman-y parts where you pose as a human, and the general vibe of being all about the violent parts of GTA with the marked countryside. Apparently, players will also get to “(Re) Discover why this game is considered one of the funniest games ever created,” which is, let’s say, a bold statement.

The original developers, Pandemic Studios, were best known for the original Star Wars: Battlefront II, but they also made a good line in game b’s action before being absorbed and destroyed by EA. This new version is directed by Black Forest Games, who are best known for Desperados and the new version of Giana Sisters, so this is a huge departure for them. Honestly, I’m not sure what to expect, but I’d be surprised if at least it’s not fun and harmless mayhem. There’s something to be said for an unassuming game that’s happy to blow things up and throw startled cows at people. The video elf Colm certainly had a good time with his demo, just finishing Matthew in the process.

Destroy all humans! It will be released at 6pm today on Steam and GOG for £ 25 / $ 30 / € 30.
