Dennis Quaid adopts a cat named Dennis Quaid: ‘I just could not resist’


He’s known as Dennis Quaid and apparently I’m his cat.

Quaid, 66, happy animal lovers everywhere this week with a love story about how he is in the process of adopting a new furry friend after learning that the cat is named after him.

The actor, who has starred in two films about dogs in recent years – the 2017 ‘A Purpose’ and his 2019 sequel, “A Dog’s Journey” – acknowledged this when he learned that there was a cat in the world named Dennis Quaid he really saw no other option but to make it his own.

According to a local news release in Virginia, Quaid took over the pet from the Lynchburg Humane Society.

“I’m out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world,” joked the actor.

In addition to appearing in movies focusing on the lives of dogs in the past, Quaid is also an executive producer of a pet podcast, “The Pet Show with Dennis Quaid and Jimmy Jellinek.”

Quaid said that when he first noticed a cat in Virginia named Dennis Quaid, he assumed someone had “pranked” him. His podcast co-host Jellinek revealed that they ran to the shelter and employees were on the same shock to learn that the actor was on the other end of the phone.

“It took us a while to get them to actually believe us,” Jellinek said.

The cat has not yet reunited with its owner’s owner, but Jellinek plans to fly from Los Angeles, California, to Lynchburg, Va., For official adoption.

“Maybe they should start naming animals in shelters after several celebrities and see who bites,” Quaid cracked.
