Los Angeles County is heading into the darkest moment of its coronavirus epidemic, with public health officials reporting 11,476 new cases on Saturday. The latest count of new Covid-1 cases may be lower than Friday and Thursday, while Los Angeles County is clearly far away as transmission rates rise to November levels.
On Saturday, a public health official announced a 370% increase in new coronavirus cases in just one month over the December period. The county has seen a 416% increase in deaths since November, and officials on Saturday confirmed an additional 70 deaths from the coronavirus.
With more than 10,000 new cases a day, an increase in deaths and hospitalizations, the 2020 holiday season poses a serious threat to Los Angeles residents. As the growth of Thanksgiving has been proven, traveling and gathering with relatives and friends outside the home can increase the risk of spreading coronavirus and contracting.
Despite living-on-home orders both locally and in the state, LA County residents should continue to do their part to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, officials said. Public health officials urge residents to avoid all unnecessary travel, maintain physical distance and wear face masks whenever possible.
According to a recent county report, coronavirus cases result in death and hospitalization while being vaccinated in other parts of the world and the FDA allows emergency use of Pfizer drugs.
To date, Los Angeles officials have identified a total of 512,872 new cases and a total of 8,269 deaths county-wide.
