Dave Bautista’s My Spy Rotten Tomatoes score is out

Dave Bautista’s long-awaited family comedy My spy It’s streaming on Amazon today, and with the launch, review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes has an initial verdict. That verdict is … well, it’s okay. With 51% of critics giving it rave reviews and 61% of the public, the film is not a huge hit or a giant bomb. It seems likely that it will help the Bautista star as a solo lead, only because he managed to achieve a performance charming enough to keep the tired premise from looking like hard work. However, it is difficult to know exactly what Amazon was expecting as it seems likely that they will buy the movie primarily because it is likely to generate conversation and engagement during these difficult times of getting new content.

The idea of big-budget summer movies opening at home is exciting for fans, especially as theaters and studios are forced to rethink their release strategies amid a further surge in coronavirus cases. For Bautista, however, it was a little disappointing that the film couldn’t try its luck on the big screen.

“I want to know when I’m going back to work. I’m missing opportunities I had,” Bautista said recently during a remote appearance on the Inside You Podcast with Michael Rosenbaum. “My movie My spy Obviously, what should have been released was obviously not capable of being released in theaters, and I was really proud of it, because it’s a fun movie, it’s a family movie. It is the first film I developed. He added, “It will eventually be released, but I wanted him to have a chance to fight in theaters because he was so proud of it. I’m proud of it.”

The film may still have a limited theatrical release: The original report suggested that in addition to Amazon, drive-ins could rent the film if they wanted, but the 2020 movie-making landscape is changing rapidly.

My spy which also stars Kristen Schaal and Ken Jeong, sees Bautista as a spy who hides to observe a family, but her nine-year-old daughter, who was played by Big Little LiesChloe Coleman. The girl then blackmails the Baptist character into teaching him to be a spy. The film is directed by Peter Segal with a script by Jon and Erich Hoeber.

Bautista’s upcoming projects include the Netflix zombie movie directed by Zack Snyder Army of the Dead, James Gunn and Marvel Studios Guardians of the galaxy vol. 3and director DJ Caruso’s The assassin’s game, where Bautista will play the murderer Joe Flood, tired of the world.
