Date, Times, Move, Shine, Research And Bonus

Magikarp show some love. The useless little flapping fish has been a fan favorite for years, and now Pokémon GO deserves the thing with a very own Community Day, continuing a trend by using Niantic with Kanto originals to fill in the calendar, because it’s probably saving some of the higher value Pokémon for later: I’m still waiting that Gible. Here’s what we need to know, from date and time to special move, shine, bonus, and the special investigation before the event: Make a splash.

The Pokémon: Magikarp has long had a reputation as a useless, splashy kind of Pokémon, but for that reason it has also been a fan favorite since at least it appeared in the original anime. It evolves into Gyarados, a reference to a Chinese myth about a carp that transforms into a dragon by swimming downstream. Gyarados is a strong raider, but it takes 400 candies to make one.

Start date and time: Gastly Community Day will run from 11:00 AM-5: 00 PM on Saturday, August 8th. Niantic extended Community Day from 3-6 hours before the COVID-19 crisis, and at this point neither the extended hours nor the crisis showed many signs of reduction in the full term.

The Move: Any Gyarados that evolved during or up to two hours after the end of Community Day will know the charged Aqua Tail movement. It does not look like the huge amount will move, but Gyarados is already a suitable water type for raids, so it can not damage as much.

Shiny: This is the real point of this Community Day. Shiny Magikarp is not all that remarkable: it’s a little more golden, and it can even be hard to tell when you catch it. The real prize is when you develop the thing into a striking, glorious Red Gyarados. Red Gyarados introduced the whole concept of shinies to the series when it appeared as part of the plot back in Gen 2. Magikarp and Gyarados were also the first two shinies to be introduced in Pokémon GO back in 2017.

Research: The special research for the event is called ‘Making a Splash’, and it is available in store. Because trainers in New Zealand can figure this out long before much of the rest of the world wakes up, we already have the full steps.

Bonus: Each Pokémon caught during Community Day will throw up triple Stardust, always a useful curriculum for new players and endgame fighters. Pop a Star piece for a bigger bonus and watch Stardust roll in.

That’s it! It takes
