‘Daredevil’ actor Peter Shinkoda claims Jeph Loeb made anti-Asian comments – Deadline

Reckless Actor Peter Shinkoda took a position Sunday during #SaveDaredevilCon when he claimed that former Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb said anti-Asian comments during the series’ production.

Shinkoda plays, Nobu Yoshioka, who is part of the Hand in the series. During a panel with fellow actors Geoffrey Cantor and Tommy Walker, Shinkoda discussed how there was a story about Nobu in the plays that deepened his relationship with Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho), but was scrapped. ” At first he was reluctant to talk about it, but that reluctance quickly went away because he felt he had to say something.

“Jeph Loeb told the writers room not to write for Nobu and Gao … and this was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners,” said Shinkoda. “He said, ‘No one cares about the Chinese and the Asians. There were three previous Marvel movies, a trilogy called Sword That was done where Wesley Snipes killed 200 Asians in each movie. Nobody gives a shit, so don’t write about Nobu and Gao. ” As a result, the story was abandoned.

This is not the first time that Loeb has been accused of being deaf about Asian representation. When Finn Jones was announced as the leader of Iron fist, many saw it as a missed opportunity to put an Asian in the lead. More than that, the outdated story of the comic book character reinforced the white savior trope and the fetishization of Asian mysticism. Loeb also decided to show up at Comic-Con in a karate outfit that was definitely not a good look.

This is in addition to the alleged unprofessional behavior of show creators and producers in comics project sets. Ray Fisher had this to say about Joss Whedon when he held the position of director at League of Justice: “Joss Whedon’s treatment on the set of the cast and crew of the Justice League was rude, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable. It was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Responsibility> Entertainment “.

During a Justice Con panel, Fisher defended his claims by saying, “If anything I have said about that man is false, I invite you to sue me for libel, slander … anything.”

Fisher also turned to Twitter to support Shinkoda and said, “Our industry will not move forward unless we are willing to pronounce the names of those who prevent it from doing so! Thank you for standing up and speaking @PeterShinkoda. I am with you.”
