Dallas City Hall – NBC 5 ‘End SARS’ Rally at Dallas-Fort Worth


Outrage over the deaths of peaceful protesters in Nigeria is growing.

At least 70 people have been killed during a two-week protest against police brutality.

The unrest began in Dallas on Saturday, with people saying they crossed the border to show solidarity with the warlords.

Hundreds of people gathered outside Dallas City Hall to raise awareness of what is happening in Nigeria where the conflict intensified this week.

On Tuesday, Nigerian security forces reportedly killed at least a dozen peaceful protesters.

It came days after protests against the infamous police unit accused of torture and murder, the Nigerian Special Anti-Robbery Squad, widely known as SARS.

The protests spread around the world, calling it “senseless cruelty” from Beyonc રી to Rihanna and Idris Alba.

In Dallas, the names of those killed in the unrest were read aloud to a packed audience on Saturday.

“The thing that really hits me is the fact that it would have been easier if I had been there,” said 19-year-old Aaron Lawson.

Ren Birabil is the first Nigerian-American to be elected to the Texas Legislature.

Most of his family lives in Nigeria. “We should all take care of what’s going on there,” she said.

“Everything we love, despite being Americans, is being violated. Human rights are really what this fight is and what is at stake, ”Birabil said.

Nigeria is the economic powerhouse of Africa with a population of 200 million. Texas is home to more Nigerians than any other state.
