New York (CBS New York) – It’s a harsh reality. The coronavirus epidemic is doing a number on local economics.
On Thursday, New York State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli released a new report showing how many rest restaurants rent and bars in the city never improve.
CTS2’s Dave Carlin reports that on Victory Boulevard in the Castleton Corners section of Staten Island, businesses are struggling and close and the recently released findings of the government’s audit data show that it will get worse between now and April.
Businesses ranging from furloughs and layoffs are permanently closed, with government Covid-19 bans disrupting the economy of New York City, especially its bars and restaurants.
The audit debt conducted by the state comptroller spells out what the fear was – that for many the economic outlook is vague. It could permanently shut down Apple Pall Bars and restaurants as large as Apple 0% in the next six months.
“Now they are facing an unprecedented upheaval that could shut down many people forever,” Dinapoli said.
Nationwide epidemic of corona virus
Aki Iliopoulos, owner of Staten Island Diner, said he works seven days a week. He said he is now able to bring some customers indoors, but not enough.
“Twenty-five percent isn’t going to cut it. That’s 15 people here, “said Iliopouus Los, who usually has 60.” It is negative. Every day, we are in the negative. “

In this ambiguous situation he is hardly the sole owner of the business.
“Twenty-five percent was a great start. It will not sustain the business. It will not sustain the industry, “said Tom Grech, president of the Queen’s Chamber of Commerce.
Iliopou los added, “Fighting, fighting is in my blood, fighting until you have nothing else to fight.
Shuff Rob Libertella said he has a lifestyle industry, which contributed 27 27 billion to taxable sales last year.
“We will rebound. Unfortunately, some things don’t work out, “Libertella said.
Pushing it to the shore hurts everyone.
“I’m a food service chef and I do events like the Super Bowl XLVII, the World Series couple, but without taking fans to the stand our revenue is down about 85%. This will have a ripple effect on the economy as a whole, “said Libertella.

Business owners are demanding more federal funding – grants and loans – and relief from even more restrictions from the city and state.
“As leaders of the government, we want to use this report of theirs and make sure that we are passing legislation, we are pushing that mayor and everyone elected to do his job,” said Catalina Cruz, a member of the legislature.
Many owners said that opening a 50% capacity seating indoor restaurant, which government Andrew Cuomo suggested could happen in about a month, would help, but not enough.
