Cyberpunk 2077 Work to prevent Bullet Sponge enemies

Even with plates of armor on their skin, it looks like enemies in Cyberpunk 2077 will not be real bullet sponsors

Yesterday’s Night City Wire event gave us our first real look at the various weapons of Cyberpunk 2077. This is new territory for developer CD Project Red, which has kept them most attached to the world of fighting for fights for their titles. Of course, there are many questions that go beyond the guns in the game and in some of the problems that shooters may experience, namely birds with bullet sponges.

Talk to VG247 about it Cyberpunk 2077Fighting systems, CD Project Red veteran and senior gameplay designer Pawel Kapala shed some light on what we can expect when smart-bullet meets the enemy. And to answer that first question about enemies that can shake a lot of buckshot without worry – like enemies in games like The division of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Kapala insists players do not have that kind of experience.

If asked how Cyberpunk 2077 will draw that ever-thin line between frustrating and challenging enemies regarding their health bars, Kapala responded, referring to the seemingly low time to kill. According to him, the normal goons and wastoids V encounters in Night City “will be pretty quick to kill, pretty quick to do. However, they are also very deadly, so you should basically use cover, and move around a lot.”

Of course enemies in Cyberpunk will not stop at being too aggressive. The bigger baddies will come armed on the teeth (perhaps literally) with cybernetic enhancements that elevate them to the realm of superhuman. So, what should players expect when they encounter a 7-foot tall gangster replacing their torso with a tank? Apparently it will not be so bad. Kapala says avoiding the issue of bullet sponge is as simple as making enemies. ‘We basically make sure that hit reactions to our NPCs are always played out. This is a big problem in most of the games I play that have bullet holes – that you do not actually see any reaction to the NPC when you hit it. “

Kapala has a point here, one of the worst parts of fighting bulletproof enemies is that there is nothing visual that turns out to hurt them. Sure, you can gradually remove the health bar to the clip, but it’s just not that satisfying. I’m still hopeful Cyberpunk 2077 introduces other mechanics that help prevent the monotony that comes with shooting one guy for five minutes. In fact, I hope that scenario in the game does not perform at all. But so far, it seems that the people working behind the scenes to satisfy the first title of CD Project Red with shooting mechanics have kept the very high standards of the studio.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on November 19 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with Xbox Series X and PS5 releases coming later.
