CD Projekt Red has scrapped one of Cyberpunk 2077’s Great gameplay features before launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia. The first major release from the Polish developer since The Witcher 3 He seems poised to be as ambitious as Geralt’s last adventure was. It is not only one of the most ambitious games of the year, but of the generation. However, it will be missing a previously announced feature when it finally launches after years and years of development.
One of our biggest, best, and earliest looks in the game returned in August 2018 when CD Projekt Red released 48 minutes of title game footage. It was a deep dive into the game and it has many game systems and features. This sample included a moment of V, equipped with mantis leaves, running down the wall to make the jump to some enemies. Unfortunately, while these mantis blades are still in the game, the wall performance isn’t.
Speaking to Game Reactor, level designer Max Pears revealed that wall execution has been removed from the game “for design reasons.” Pears doesn’t disclose any additional details about the feature removal, but it does point out that players will still have considerable “flexibility” of movement, which sounds like a huge improvement in The Witcher 3, which was rigid and lacked variety of movements.
On paper, running on the wall sounds like a great feature, and it sure creates striking moments in vertical cuts. However, there is a reason why not many games have it. Implementing is a challenge, and even more challenging doing it well. That said, many people were eager for the feature, and therefore it should come as no surprise that there is an expression of disappointment among many gamers awaiting the title.
Cyberpunk 2077 It is in development for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, and is slated to launch worldwide on November 19, 2020.
