Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the hottest games of 2020, and when it has all its bells and graphic whistles enabled (thanks NVIDIA) it really looks out of this world.

Well, all those pretty graphics are exclusive to DirectX 12, with PC gamers requiring Windows 10 for the most part, but they will work with Windows 7 and its DX12 implementation. The reason? Marcin Gollent, lead CD graphics developer PROJEKT RED says it is due to ray tracing.
During a recent interview with PC Games Hardware, Gollent said: “Thanks to the introduction of DX12 support for Windows 7 SP1 that Microsoft introduced last year, the game will run on this system. We tested and will continue to test Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows 7 in an attempt to resolve any case that may arise. Unfortunately Windows 8 did not receive its DX12 library variant“
He added: “Regarding DX12 Ultimate, Cyberpunk 2077 will work absolutely fine with all DX12 compatible GPUs. What the “Ultimate” feature set does is it allows us to do more if the hardware allows it. We opted to use DX12 for two main reasons“
Gollent continued: “First of all, it’s the standard API for Xbox platforms, and with the game also coming to Xbox One, we naturally wanted to implement it as soon as possible. Second, it is DXR’s birthplace, and since we had plans to invest in DXR from the start, that made choosing DX12 quite easy.“
Remember that CD PROJEKT RED and NVIDIA announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would introduce ray tracing and DLSS 2.0 technologies when the game starts.
