The multiplayer experience of Cyberpunk 2077, which is coming after the release of the single-player game, will have some form of microtransaction system, and now developer CD Project Red has shared with them some additional insights about its approach.
Adam Kikinski, president of CD Project Red, said in an earnings report that the developer is looking for ways for people to spend money and be happy with it in multiplayer.
“Well, we’re never aggressive towards our fans!” He said. “We treat them fairly and we’re friendly. So of course not – we won’t be aggressive – but you can expect to buy big things. The goal is to monetize in a way that makes people happy to spend. Money.I don’t try to be emotional or hide something; it’s also about creating a sense of value.
Kikinsky’s comments echo what officials at other large gaming companies such as EA, Take-Two and Activation have said about his approach to microtransactions. They want to create a transaction where the customer feels they are getting value for their money.
“Just like our single-player games: we want gamers to be happy when we spend money on our products,” Kisinski said. “It’s the same for microtransactions: you can, of course, and expect [Cyberpunk 2077] It’s a great setting to sell things, but it won’t be aggressive; It won’t upset gamers but it will make them happy – that’s our goal at least. “
The official announcement of Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer is yet to be made, so it is too early to say or speculate on what its microtransactions might look like. In addition to these microtransactions for multiplayer, Cyberpunk 2077’s single-player game, like its predecessor Witcher 3, will have free DLC and a paid extension.
“You can expect more, really. We’re not going into a lot of details today, but everything will be clear before the release,” Kikinski said. “As we get closer to the release, we expect the post-release plans to be announced soon; a range of free DLCs and extensions will be described – as I said, you can expect it soon and then everything will be clear.”
Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer spin-off is not coming out any time soon. Last we heard, CD Project Red said you should expect it to be released as early as 2022.
