Crowded nightclub in downtown Houston videotaped

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A video was shot over the weekend showing people standing together at a busy Houston nightclub and began circulating online.

The video was taken at Spire Night Club in downtown Houston. A woman with a mask is seen crossing, but other people around her in the video are not dressed.

Carson Zoch, who posted the video on Twitter, wrote: “Imagine prioritizing your ‘social life’ over people’s real lives. This is no longer about you, you are putting others at risk.”

On Monday, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s mandatory mask order went into effect, requiring all residents over the age of 10 to cover their faces inside businesses.

Gov. Greg Abbott ordered all bars closed and reduced restaurant capacity to 50 percent in Texas on Friday after the state experienced a record 3 days in a row of COVID-19 cases.

The Harris County Fire Marshal said his complaint hotline and website form received 580 complaints due to overcrowding and / or opening businesses when they shouldn’t, but appointments have not yet been issued.

ABC13 spoke to one of the club’s owners. The owner said that the disco was opened because they are registered as a restaurant.
