Cranes take the Dutch fugitive train from the whale sculpture

SPIEGKENIS, NETHERLANDS (AP) – The front train of a Dutch metro train that landed on a whale tail sculpture after playing to the end of an elevated section of railway, the artwork was clearly lifted on Tuesday and landed on the ground.

The train was left slightly balanced on its tail 10 meters (33 feet) above the ground on Monday after it sank at the end of a metro line in Spijkanis, a town on the southern edge of Rotterdam.

On Tuesday two large yellow cranes were at work, placing chains on the front and rear of the train to support it. In an operation that began in the morning and lasted until evening darkness, workers cut him loose from another vehicle and rolled off its wheels before the train slowly descended to the ground.

About 20 people watching the parade were finally separated from the rest of the train in the middle of the darkness and rejoiced when it landed on the ground.

The train was empty when the sculpture crashed and the driver escaped unintentionally due to an unlikely catch of the whale tail.

The local safety authority said the driver was interviewed by police on Monday as part of an investigation into the cause of the crash and was allowed to go home.
