COVID New Jersey: Coronavirus Group Linked to Home Party, Patients Failed to Cooperate

MIDDLETOWN, NJ (WABC) – Health officials in New Jersey are investigating a group of coronavirus cases all related to a house party.

Authorities say the group of about 20 COVID-19 cases is connected through a party on West Front Street in Middletown on July 11.

“If you think your child may have attended such a party or is participating in sports or any other group activity that may have included someone potentially exposed, ask them to quarantine for 14 days to monitor for signs and symptoms,” said the Middletown Health Center. Department said in a statement. “If they get sick, they should isolate themselves and contact their family doctor. We encourage you to have your child screened for COVID-19.”

All of the new cases are adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19, and Middletown health officials say they encounter resistance as they try to track the cases.

“We are asking and pleading with parents and students who may have attended that,” said Middletown Mayor Tony Perry. “It doesn’t have a problem, but we want to tear the back off this infection. And if we can get that contact information and get some details, we will be able to contact those who may have been exposed to the coronavirus.”

Officials are also urging parents who organize meetings to do so responsibly.
