Covid Long Island: Long Island woman Shirley White survives White Covid but develops serious tracheal problems

Valley Stream, Long Island (WABC) – A woman from Long Island is telling the story of her existence about fighting coronavirus and developing serious complications.

Shirley White, 55, of Valley Stream, survived a very rough bound with COVID-19, was placed on a ventilator twice and then developed serious bronchial problems.

“I was so scared, so nervous,” White said. “It was like a big struggle for me. When it comes to breathing and when to speak. “

His pulmonologist, Dr. Arthur Trust, referred him to Dr. David Zeltzman of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Zeltsman underwent a procedure for something called tracheal stenosis in Tra Gust.

The doctor cutter had to physically remove the obstacles and connect the ends together, but White was in tears when she heard how to achieve this.

“It was very understandable,” said Dr. Zeltsman. “If someone told me that – by the end of the surgery, we’re going to sew your chin to your chest wall, I’d be a little worried too.”

These sutures were temporary – and both White and his partner, who also survived COVID, explained how their recovery journey began.

“I discovered that I was able to breathe,” White said. “One hundred percent better.”

And while she has months to recover and needs oxygen oxygen from time to time, her disease is much worse because her prognosis is now better.

Her gratitude is immense, as she wished her son a happy birthday.

“Happy birthday,” White said. “And Mommy is glad to be here to celebrate, to celebrate with you.”
