Press Release from Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

A sixth Humboldt County resident diagnosed with COVID-19 has died.

The man, in his 70s, was hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms. Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Expressing sympathy, Teresa Frankovic said her heart goes out to the loved ones of this person and everyone who mourned this loss.

Twenty-six new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing the total number of county residents who tested positive for the virus to 473.

“The recent increase in the number of cases is very relevant,” said Dr. Francovich. “If we continue at this pace, we run the risk of moving to ‘substantial’ or red tires in the new state structure. This increase not only affects the health of our community, it can also affect our local businesses, many of which need to reduce their operations or, in some cases, close operations. “

Dr. Frankovich stressed the importance of adherence to preventive measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. “Tools are available to all of us to limit the spread of this virus. “Wearing facial covers, practicing frequent and thorough hand washing, and avoiding gatherings with people outside your home is the best way to protect yourself and your family.”
