Press Release from Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Eight new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing the total number of Humboldt County residents infected with the virus to 579.
Daily, weekly and monthly datasets have been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. Some highlights include:
- The 20-29 age group represents the highest percentage of domestic cases at 23.6%, followed by the 30-39 age group at 19.5%.
- The county rate of confirmed cases is 434 per 100,000 inhabitants. State and national rates are 2,345 and 2,801, respectively.
- About 1 in 10 or 9.6% of people infected with the virus locally report no symptoms, up from 3.3% in October and 4.4% in September.
Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich said asymptomatic transmission is a concern. “Because we know that individuals without symptoms are capable of transmitting the virus, it is important that people participate in screening, engaging in more risky activities that are more likely to be exposed.” Dr. Francovich added that testing people who are asymptomatic is a valuable tool for monitoring the spread of the virus in our community. “I would encourage everyone to sign up for the test,” he said.
Free appointments are available at the umtum service site at Redwood Acres in Eureka, without any symptoms.
