Humboldt County Joint Information Center Press Release:
Five additional cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing to 200 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus since the first local case was diagnosed on February 20.
Dr. Teresa Frankovich, Humboldt County Health Officer, called this an unfortunate but predictable milestone as cases increase across the state and nation. “We were the first rural county in the nation to diagnose a COVID-19 case at a time when very few cases were seen nationwide. We have now seen 200 local cases in just over five months, while the country reports more than 3.9 million, “he said.
“We know that this virus is highly contagious, but the most important thing is to know that there are steps we can all take to limit transmission and keep us and our loved ones safe,” said Dr. Frankovich. “We can all commit to covering our faces and keeping a distance of six feet when interacting with those outside our home, while practicing thorough and regular hand washing and cleaning. Even five months after our first case, these measures remain our best strategy to prevent transmission of this virus. “
