Humboldt County Joint Information Center Press Release:

Humboldt County’s confirmed COVID-19 case count increased to 138 after two additional cases were reported today.

Of the 138 residents who tested positive, more than 60 percent contracted the virus from contact with a known case. The upcoming weekend of July 4 is traditionally a time when friends, families, and communities gather to celebrate, but gatherings of any size that bring together people outside of their family groups continue to increase the spread of COVID-19, both in our county as throughout the state. .

Dr. Teresa Frankovich, Humboldt County Health Officer, joined state health officials today to urge residents to avoid meetings and help curb the spread of the virus. “I think we can all agree that spending time with friends and family in person would be great, but we are not there yet,” she said.

“Every time two homes come together, there is an increased risk of exposure. In fact, we are currently seeing a significant increase in cases due to visits between members of the extended family. We are also seeing cases related to people visiting homes in other counties, ”said Frankovich. Again, we are at a crossroads. If we do not adhere to prevention practices, we will soon see more and more cases locally. We can stay safe by staying local and within our household groups. “
