Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing to 175 the total number of county residents who tested positive for the virus.

Dr. Teresa Frankovich, Humboldt County Health Officer, noted the inherent risk associated with travel during a pandemic and the possibility of further local spread. In fact, it was determined that eight newly diagnosed cases were acquired through trips to an area outside of the county.

“Any trip is risky right now, not just for the traveler but for our entire community,” said Dr. Frankovich. “We have seen several groups that started with a single person or group of people acquiring the virus through the journey. At this time, it is safest to postpone or cancel the trip whenever possible. “
