Humboldt County Joint Information Center Press Release:
The total Humboldt County count stands at 282, after two new cases were reported today.
Due to the rate of increasing cases, Public Health yesterday raised the effectiveness of disease control to level three on the Alert Level Assessment Tool. While this does not change the overall alarm level, currently at orange as level or orange, Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich the rise in cases concerning.
“We only reported 49 cases this week, and that represents about 17 percent of our total cases as of February,” she said. “These developments should deepen our resolution to do everything we can to limit the spread of this virus.”
Dr. Frankovich went on to say, “I am deeply grateful to the vast majority of our residents who take this responsibility to protect each other by using all common tools, such as face covering, distance and still travel or travel invited by family members and friends. “These kinds of choices really make a difference for our province.”
The public health lab was unable to operate at full capacity today due to a major plastic problem overnight that flooded part of the lab and caused significant damage to the offices of the Director of Public Health and both public health officials. Damage includes downed overhead fixtures in one office and part ceiling collapse in another. Michele Stephens, Dr. Teresa Frankovich and Dr. Josh Ennis move temporarily inside the building while their offices are repaired. Although some surgeries were affected, Public Health staff said, in terms of lab labs COVID testing “did not skip a beat.”
